Authorities have identified the body found Tuesday on the east side of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, according to a news release.

Lavaughn Richmond, an 18-year-old Spring Lake resident and relative of a retired soldier, was found deceased in an isolated area near McArthur Road, the release said.

He had last been seen on Dec. 31, the release added, when he left his home in jeans and a t-shirt.

“We are awaiting additional information from the autopsy, but from all the evidence our agents have at this point, we do not suspect foul play, but have not completely ruled it out in an abundance of caution to ensure we conduct a complete and thorough investigation into the tragic death of this young man,” Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said in the release.

Further details were not available, to protect the integrity of the investigation, the release said.
