Kensington’sTechnicians make house calls over Net

Have a tech question? YourTechOnline.com provides free video advice on basic topics, such as how to perform better Internet searches and speed up your PC’s start-up time. Should you need more intensive support, the online service also provides paid technical help. After hearing a description of the problem, a technician estimates how many minutes the problem will take to fix. If you want to continue, the technician connects to your computer over the Internet. While he works, you can watch his progress on your computer and ask questions by phone. The service charges $49 for 30 minutes, $79 for 60 minutes and $109 for 90 minutes. Any unused minutes can be applied to future problems.

Device turns PC into TV

StarTech can help you watch TV shows on your PC. Here’s how: Connect its External USB 2.0 TV Tuner to a USB port on a PC and to a broadcast antenna or cable outlet. Using the included software, you can then watch TV on your computer. Priced at $99, the USB device comes with a remote control and also works with DVD players, game consoles and other electronic devices.

Accessories aim to add realism to video games

Philips adds a touch of realism to game play with a new line of amBX PC Gaming Peripherals that re-create the sights, sounds and feel of computer games. Its PC Starter Kit includes a directional wall washer light, a controller unit and satellite lights that render a variety of special effects ranging from red-hot explosions to soothing fireside flickers. It costs $200. A Pro-Gamer Kit, which also includes two satellite 2.1 speaker lights and a subwoofer, costs $300. An Extension Kit, which features a set of desk fans and a wrist rumbler that create the sensation of wind, collisions, acceleration and other sensory experiences, is $100.
