ENLISTED PROMOTIONS DIGEST: MAY
Soldiers who held recommended list status as of March 20 through April 8, and who meet or exceed the cutoff scores for May are eligible to be promoted May 1 as follows:
Rank Primary zone Secondary zone
Sergeant to staff sergeant 72 months time in service and 10 months time in grade 71 months time in service (less than 72 months) and nine months time in grade (less than 10 months)
Rank Primary zone Secondary zone
Specialist/corporal to sergeant 36 months time in service and eight months time in grade 35 months time in service (less than 36 months) and seven months time in grade (less than eight months)
 
Airborne advantage
The airborne advantage can be applied in May to the specialties listed below. Soldiers drawing jump pay, and who are assigned to positions coded with skill qualification identifier P, S or V can deduct 65 points for scores to sergeant, and 25 points for scores to staff sergeant.

STAR MOSs
STAR MOSs are specialties for which additional promotions would have been authorized for May if more soldiers in these shortage military occupational specialties were on selection lists. Specialists and corporals holding one of the STAR specialties for sergeant should be given priority for Warrior Leader Course attendance.

Selection boards
* Sergeant major - Promotions off the 2008 list began in December. The list is projected to last until May 2010 as part of the transition to a new professional development system for senior NCOs.
* Master sergeant - Promotions off the 2008 list began in December.
* Sergeant first class - The 2009 list was released March 24, and promotions began April 1.
