Rescue missions from different eras. Vietnam War stories from different services. An Army icon vs. a Navy Maverick. And John Wayne vs. Lee Marvin.

Military Times' Military Movie Madness has reached the quarterfinals, where champions of each of our four regions, based on a movie's release date, will be crowned. Head here to cast your vote on these four matchups (deadline is Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. Eastern) :

  • "Saving Private Ryan" vs. "Black Hawk Down"
  • "Full Metal Jacket" vs. "Platoon"
  • "Top Gun" vs. "Patton"
  • "The Longest Day" vs. "The Dirty Dozen"

Unlike previous voting, no matchups in the Round of 16 came down to the wire. An 8 percentage-point gap separated the winner from the loser in three showdowns: "Black Hawk Down" trumped military box-office champion "American Sniper," "The Dirty Dozen" raced past Steve McQueen and "The Great Escape," and "Top Gun" was too much for top-seeded "Apocalypse Now."

That leaves "Saving Private Ryan" and "Full Metal Jacket" as the only remaining top seeds in the bracket, but both will face their toughest competition to date in this round of voting.

Polls close Wednesday for the quarterfinals, with the final four movies doing battle beginning Thursday. Voters will chose a champion early next week.
