Jeopardy! College Championship

The Final Jeopardy! question … er, answer, for the show that aired Monday: "Teddy Roosevelt called it 'the one great site which every American should see.' "

Her loss didn't prevent Pekny from watching and enjoying the show with her Army West Point rugby teammates Monday at an on-campus restaurant. She kept them in the dark on the results.

"It's way more fun to just watch it," she said. "especially the way that game went."

Pekny qualified via online test, went to a regional audition in New York in November, learned that she would appear on the show in December and taped her appearance in January, missing a week of classes. Officials at West Point were supportive throughout the process, she said, as were plenty of classmates who peppered her with trivia questions in the run-up to the taping.

After studying for and taking her West Point exams, the West Lafayette, Indiana, native went home and "started studying everything," she said. "You hope that, like a shotgun blast, you hit some of the categories."

Pekny is set to attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course for the Medical Service Corps after graduation, then will be off to orientation at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

"I'm pretty excited about having the opportunity to become a doctor in the Army, wherever that takes me," she said.

The college tournament continues throughout early February, with contestants shooting for $100,000.

Roosevelt was talking about the Grand Canyon.
