An Army investigation led to the Monday firing of a colonel who had commanded the Winn Army Community Hospital at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Ahearne had been under temporary suspension since April 20, according to the release. He had been in command of the medical facility for less than year, with a report date in July of 2015, according to Army records. The investigation into Ahearne was conducted by Army Regional Health Command-Atlantic, according to Medical Command.

According to his Army biography, Ahearne previously served as Chief of Army Nurse Corps Branch for human resources command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as well as deputy commander for health services at Fort Carson, Colorado, among a variety of other locations.
