There will be 2,737 promotions to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major for the Regular Army on April 1, about 800 fewer than in March.

April sequence numbers and cutoff scores issued by Human Resources Command in late March authorize 26 advancements to sergeant major, 147 to master sergeant, 143 to sergeant first class, 877 to staff sergeant and 1,544 to sergeant.

The sergeant major and sergeant first class promotions will be made from the 2014 lists, and the master sergeant authorization from the 2013 list, which will be reduced to 436 names.

The 2014 E8 list was released one year ago, and is available for use upon completion of the 2013 list. The 2015 sergeant first class list, compiled by a board that met in February and early March, is pending release.

There would be more promotions to sergeant and staff sergeant in April if additional soldiers in chronically short-handed specialties, called STAR MOS, were on selection lists.

As of late March there were 23 STAR MOS for sergeant, and 13 for staff sergeant. Soldiers in these shortage MOS will be speedily promoted if boarded and placed on the service-wide E5 and E6 recommended lists.
