A soldier from Fort Hood, Texas, has died from injuries she suffered in a hit-and-run accident, officials said Monday.

Sgt. Kyesha Lashell Harris-Foster, 28, died Saturday. She had been in intensive care at Baylor Scott & White hospital since May 25, when she was hit by a vehicle while she was trying to cross the street, said Carroll Smith, a spokeswoman for the Killeen Police Department.

Police are still looking for the driver of that vehicle, described as a tan mid-sized car. The car is missing its driver's side mirror, and it likely has damage to its front left side, Smith said.

The incident happened about 2 a.m. May 25 in the 2800 block of South Fort Hood Street, about two miles from post, Smith said.

Harris-Foster was crossing the street when she was hit by the tan vehicle. A nurse who was in a nearby business ran into the street to help Harris-Foster, then a second vehicle hit both women, running over Harris-Foster, Smith said. The driver of the second vehicle stayed at the scene, she said.

Harris-Foster had been in the intensive-care unit since then, and unfortunately "succumbed to her injuries," Smith said.

The nurse who tried to help was treated and released from the hospital the same day as the accident, she said.

Harris-Foster, whose home of record is listed as Upper Marlboro, Maryland, entered active duty in March 2009 as a pharmacy specialist, according to information from Fort Hood. She had been assigned to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center at Fort Hood since 2012.

Harris-Foster's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
