ARLINGTON, Va. — A Louisiana National Guardsman killed in a helicopter crash whose family's request that he be buried at Arlington National Cemetery was initially denied will be laid to rest there.

The standard military honors burial service will be conducted Tuesday for Army Staff Sgt. Thomas Florich III, cemetery spokeswoman Melissa Bohan said in a news release Thursday.

Florich, 26, was among four guardsmen and seven Marines killed when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed March 10 off Florida.

The Army said that because Florich was on active duty for training only, he did not meet the requirements for burial at Arlington.

But on June 12, Secretary of the Army John McHugh approved an exception to policy to allow Florich to be buried at Arlington.
