Fort Bragg Fire Station No. 7 is falling apart and the problems have been documented since at least 2014, according to The Fayetteville Observer.

"When it's literally raining inside as much as it's raining outside, to me, it's just unacceptable,'' said Donny Janik, a firefighter who's worked at the station for five years. "We need a new fire station," he said. "We don't need Band-Aids."

Michael Griddine, another firefighter at the station, recently wrote a letter to Rep. Richard Hudson, who represents North Carolina's 8th congressional district, "Some of the problems with the station involve visible areas of what appears to be mold, rodent and pest problems, multiple roof leaks throughout the facility, carpets with mildew smell and suspected structural issues," Griddine wrote.

Hudson said he would work with the Army on finding a long-term solution.

The Observer said some of the problems firefighters, inspectors and documented assessments reported are leaks in the roof, mold, cracks in the floors, failing sewer system, asbestos and an out-of-compliance fire alarm system.

The fire station is currently budgeted to receive $60,000 annually for repairs.  The estimated cost just to replace the roof is $500,000, according to an engineer report.
