Retired Army officer "Buffalo" Jim Reeves powered through 22 hot dogs on Tuesday at the 2017 Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island, New York.

Reigning champion and world record holder Joey "Jaws" Chestnut won the Mustard Belt again — for the 10th time — and broke his own record by eating 72 hot dogs in only 10 minutes.

Although Reeves was 50 hot dogs shy of first place, he still managed to consume an average of 2.2 hot dogs per minute. Reeves tied for 14th place out of 21; it was a three-way tie with Badlands Booker and Josh Miller.

At his qualifier for the international contest held in May in Valdosta, Georgia, Reeves ate 23 hot dogs in 10 minutes. While he may have only placed 14th in the hot dog eating competition, Reeves still holds the world record for watermelon, consuming a whopping 13.22 pounds of the fruit.
