The Army is considering a new badge called the Expert Action Badge for soldiers who aren't in the infantry or medic military occupational specialties.

The badge, which complements the Combat Action Badge, will be very similar to the Expert Infantryman Badge and Expert Field Medical Badge. And if approved, soldiers could see the badge by October 2019, said Command Sgt. Maj. David Davenport, the senior enlisted soldier for Training and Doctrine Command.

"This is for the remainder of MOSs that don't have a formal way of certifying competencies associated with their MOSs," Davenport said Friday during a conference call with reporters.

Earning the EAB will be similar to earning the EIB or EFMB — soldiers will have to pass a series of tests validating their ability to perform warrior tasks and battle drills.

A pilot to test the feasibility of the Expert Action Badge is scheduled for April at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. If the badge moves forward, it must be approved by the Army chief of staff and Army secretary.
