Army officials at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, identified the soldier who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound last Saturday as Sgt. Philip Brandon Wright.

Police reports indicate Wright, a pharmacy sergeant, was found in his off-post residence by co-workers and Fairbanks law enforcement officers on Saturday afternoon.

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Wright enlisted in January 2008. He completed his training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in 2008, before being assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia, and then Fort Irwin, California.

Wright was assigned to the U.S. Army Alaska’s 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, at Fort Wainwright in April.

Wright's next of kin has been notified. His death is still under investigation by the Fairbanks Police Department.
