A first lieutenant from the 101st Airborne Division has died in a vehicle accident in Kuwait, the Defense Department announced Sunday.

First Lt. Jeffrey Cooper, 25, died Saturday in a vehicle rollover accident while traveling from Camp Buehring to Ali Al Salem Airfield. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Cooper, of Mill Creek, Washington, was deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Cooper was an infantry officer assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

He joined the Army in June 2013 and had been assigned at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, since July 2015.

Cooper's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
