An Army medic charged with raping and killing his 9-month-old daughter is back at Fort Campbell while he waits for his civilian trial.

Spc. Christopher Conway, assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at the Kentucky-based post, was bonded out of jail on Wednesday after agreeing to GPS monitoring and a no-contact order with his wife, their other daughter, and the wife’s family, according to the Leaf-Chronicle.

Conway, 22, was arrested in November and charged with homicide and aggravated rape after his infant daughter, who has a twin, died. Police responded to his home after someone called to say CPR was being performed on the baby, but she was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, the baby died after a cord was wrapped around her neck, and she had injuries consistent with being raped.

While Conway waits to face a trial in civilian court, a 101st Airborne Division spokesman said the soldier is back on post.

Upon his release, Conway returned to Fort Campbell and is “performing duties commensurate with his grade/rank,” Lt. Col. Martin O’Donnell told Army Times via email.

Conway is not under confinement or under guard, and he may interact with people, O’Donnell said, adding that Conway and his family are continuing to receive all pay and associated benefits.

“The safety of all our soldiers, their families and the local community is of paramount concern, and we have policies and procedures in place to protect their well-being,” O’Donnell said. “We fully support the local authorities as they continue to investigate this case.”
