An Army enlistee was arrested on Saturday after a 3-year-old was wounded Friday evening in a random shooting incident in Fayetteville, North Carolina, police say.

Brian Michael Cavalier, 22, was charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property and causing serious bodily injury.

He was being held at the Cumberland County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Cavalier was examining a .45 caliber Ruger handgun when he fired a bullet into the adjoining wall of a neighboring apartment, according to police. The round passed through the wall and hit the toddler in the shoulder.

Another man, identified as Max Michael, was with Cavalier and was taken into custody but not charged.

Michael is also a soldier, according to police. It isn’t clear if they are assigned to Fort Bragg.

The toddler was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was last reported as being in stable condition and he is expected to survive.
