The Army-Navy basketball rivalry will invade "The World's Most Famous Arena" next year, with both men's and women's games set for Jan. 23 in New York City's Madison Square Garden.

The doubleheader will be a first for the venue, which has hosted countless college basketball contests and remains home to the National Invitation Tournament, which began in 1938.

The Navy men last played at the Garden in 1972 against Manhattan, according to the Naval Academy's news release. The Mids played in the 1962 NIT and also participated in four NCAA tournament games at the arena, dating back to a 1947 loss to Holy Cross.

The Navy women's team has never played at the Garden; the Army West Point women played in the 2007 and 2008 Maggie Dixon Classics at the arena, a tournament honoring the former Army West Point coach who died in 2006 at age 28, shortly after leading the Black Knights to their first-ever NCAA tournament.

The games will count as the upcoming season's basketball "star games," which are used to determine which academy earns the overall Star Series victory in rivalry contests across all sports. The four teams will play another doubleheader Feb. 20 in Annapolis.

Times and television availability for the Garden games have yet to be announced. The Navy men beat Army West Point in both games last year, while the women's teams split their contests.

Army West Point's hockey team previously booked its ticket to the Big Apple for the upcoming school year, facing Bentley University on Nov. 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
