Results of the much-anticipated master sergeant promotion selection board that met in February and March will be released May 7.

In addition to considering E7s for promotion, the board also conduct retention screenings for staff sergeants under the Qualitative Service Program, and for senior NCOs under the Qualitative Management Program.

Promotions from the new lists can begin as soon as scheduled by the Army. After May promotions, 335 names will remain on the 2014 Regular Army selection list, and none on the AGR list.

Boards that selection master sergeants are the largest and most competitive promotion panels conducted by the Army.

Last year, 17,660 RA sergeants first class competed for selection, and only 2,076 of those soldiers were recommended for advancement, which is a select rate of only 11.7 percent.

The AGR boards are even more competitive. The 2014 panel considered 3,198 soldiers for master sergeant stripes, but selected on 188, for a select rate of 5.8 percent.

Soldiers who accept promotion to master sergeant incur a three-year active-duty service obligation.
