An American service member has died while serving in Kuwait, according to a Wednesday release from U.S. Central Command.

The service member, whose branch was not identified in the release, died Wednesday in a non-combat related incident, the release said.

No further details were immediately available. A spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for clarification of whether the incident was an accident, a medical issue or happened under suspicious circumstances.

“Further information will be released by the relevant national authorities 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified,” the release said.

American troops are in Kuwait supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the official name of the U.S. effort against ISIS.

Thousands of service members from the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy have rotated through the country in support of the operation.
