Fort Hood soldier dies in apparent drowning

FORT HOOD, Texas – Officials at Fort Hood have released the name of the soldier who died in an apparent drowning Monday at Stillhouse Hollow Lake in Salado.

Officials say Sgt. 1st Class Robert Lee Jones Jr., 31, was pronounced deceased by a Bell County Justice of the Peace shortly before 5 p.m. April 13. His home of record was listed as Anderson, South Carolina.

Jones entered active-duty service in February 2003 and was assigned to III Corps Noncommissioned Officers Academy at Fort Hood in June 2014. He was deployed twice in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Fort Hood said the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
