A group of Rangers and an 8-year-old from New Mexico showed last week that you can lead the way in more ways than one.

Eleck Stone joined soldiers with the 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, for two days of training last week — everything from airborne operations training to time on the shooting range to a simulated raid alongside his battle buddies and his younger brother, Bryce.

After a stellar performance, "the Regimental Commander and Regimental Sergeant Major voted unanimously to add Eleck to the ranks of the U.S. Army's premier raid force," the unit's Facebook page announced Friday.

Eleck has cystic fibrosis, according to a piece on the training visit in the (Columbus) Ledger-Enquirer. His visit came via the Make-A-Wish Foundation; his inspiration, his mother told the newspaper, may have come from conversations with his grandfather, a Vietnam veteran.

"Thank you to The 75th Ranger Regiment for making Eleck's wish so awesome!" Make-A-Wish America posted on its Facebook page, sharing photos of the training.
