A paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division died Saturday from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident, officials said.

Pfc. Greyvon Tyler, 23, was injured Friday in the crash in Chesterfield, Virginia. He later died during surgery at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, according to information from the 82nd Airborne. The Richmond Police Department is investigating the crash.

Tyler was a petroleum supply specialist in the 127th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

His death is an "absolutely tragic loss to our family," said Lt. Col. Dominic Ciaramitaro, commander of the 127th BEB, in a statement.

"Pfc. Greyvon Tyler was a remarkable paratrooper, full of vigor and a love for the airborne life," Ciaramitaro said. "Joining us this past June, he had already accomplished more in five months than most soldiers do in five years. From training rotations in Germany and Fort Polk, Louisiana, to his marriage in October, Pfc. Tyler was already making a difference with his positive outlook, bright smile and desire to better the lives of his fellow paratroopers."

Tyler joined the Army in October 2014. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.

He is survived by his wife, mother, father and stepfather.
