Army investigators hope the public can help find a woman who reportedly went missing from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, nearly 40 years ago.

The children of Alice Fay (Jones) Jefferson have asked Army Criminal Investigation Command to investigate her disappearance. She reportedly was last seen in July 1975; her husband, a sergeant with B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, was stationed at Fort Campbell from March 1973 until that month, according to a CID news release.

Jefferson's husband "was transferred under normal rotation" that July, said Chris Grey, chief of public affairs for CID, on Wednesday in an emailed response to questions. "We are not releasing any further information regarding that at this time."

Investigators believe Jefferson was 21 at the time of the disappearance. She reportedly has lived in, or been linked via visits or family members to, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, in addition to Kentucky, according to the release. Grey said she was linked to those locations around the time of her disappearance.

Family members say Jefferson stood about 5-foot-1 and weighed between 100 and 115 pounds in 1975. As to the family's recent interest in the nearly 40-year-old case, Grey said CID "cannot speculate about the family or speak on their behalf, but we do want to assist them in finding their mother."
