Bracetty-Atanacio told police that the soldier, of Moca, Puerto Rico, attempted to punch him and that he stabbed Badilloalvarez with a paring knife in self-defense.

He and Rivera-Rivera drove away, the report states. Police reached the scene shortly before 3 a.m. to find Badilloalvarez lying in the grass, being attended to by two men, with a towel over his stomach.

"[An officer] asked Victor who did this to him and he stated, 'Randal, the baby's dad,' " according to the affidavit.

Badilloalvarez was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Fort Hood release offered no details on the incident, calling it an "altercation," and says the matter is under investigation.

Police arrested Bracetty-Atanacio later on Dec. 27, charging him with second-degree murder as well as evidence tampering, stemming from his statement to police that he threw his knife out of the car on his way home from the incident. Rivera-Rivera also faces charges related to his alleged role in the soldier's death. Both men are in Osceola County Jail.

Badilloalvarez enlisted in January 2012 as an ammunition specialist and had been with 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, since November 2013, the Fort Hood release states. He deployed to Afghanistan from April to November 2014 and earned two Army Commendation Medals and two Army Achievement Medals among other awards and decorations.

A Facebook page in Badilloalvarez's name that includes the same photo of the soldier provided by Fort Hood officials states that he was married in May.
