The Anne Arundel County Police Department announced the reward Tuesday in the case of Pfc. Karlyn Serane Ramirez, 24, who police found dead Aug. 25 in her off-post home with multiple gunshot wounds. She was next to her 5-month-old daughter, who was not harmed.

While investigators have yet to name a suspect after more than six months, "it is a very active, very hot case," department spokeswoman Cpl. Jacklyn Davis said Wednesday. Interviews are ongoing, and investigators hope the addition of the reward money will lead to critical details in a case where evidence is "pointing toward a very targeted incident," Davis said.

There were no signs of forced entry at Ramirez's town home in Severn, just minutes from Fort Meade. Investigators found no evidence of a robbery, Davis said. Maintenance workers in the town home community called police when they saw dogs running loose nearby, noticed an open door at Ramirez's home and tried, unsuccessfully, to get the attention of anyone inside.

Ramirez's husband, also an active-duty soldier, was questioned multiple times by police within days of the shooting, police officials said shortly after the incident. Her roommate, another female soldier stationed at Fort Meade, also has been questioned, Davis said. Police believe both of those individuals were out of state at the time of the incident, Davis said — confirming local media reports — but "nobody will be ruled out until we know who did it."

Ramirez had served with the Fort Meade-based 704th Military Intelligence Brigade since December 2014, according to information provided by a unit spokesman at the time of the incident. She served for a year at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, before reporting to the brigade.

The department generally offers a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in homicide cases, Davis said. Army Criminal Investigation Command matched the amount and has been an "extremely helpful" partner in the case, she added.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at 410-222-4700.
