The Army-Navy men's basketball rivalry came within minutes of making its Madison Square Garden debut Saturday afternoon, but an impending travel ban forced the game's postponement as more than 2 feet of snow piled up on the streets of New York City.

The game will be held at West Point's Christl Arena on Feb. 1, Army West Point announced in a Monday news release, with a scheduled 7 p.m. tip (UPDATE: A time change announced Tuesday puts the start at 7:30, with the contest streaming online via the Patriot League Network). Those with tickets to the MSG showdown can exchange them for seats at Christl, and more tickets will be on sale Tuesday morning through Army West Point's online ticket portal.

Army West Point announced Saturday's postponement on its Twitter page about 45 minutes before the game's scheduled 2 p.m. start. The Army West Point women's team downed Navy 75-38 in what was supposed to be the first game of a nationally televised doubleheader at MSG, but city officials announced a 2:30 p.m. travel ban, which would've created problems for fans attempting to leave the Garden after the men's game.

An announced crowd of about 1,000 saw the women's game.

"They knocked on our door with about four minutes left in the women's game and the Army AD said that they had to cancel the game because of the state of emergency in New York," Navy men's coach Ed DeChellis told The Associated Press. "I felt so bad for my kids who had the once in a lifetime chance to play here."

Navy hosts Army West Point in Annapolis on Feb. 20.
