The Army is investigating after a paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division was found dead in his barracks room.

Pfc. Jacob Buckmaster Jr., 22, was found unresponsive Monday in his room on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, according to an Army statement.

Buckmaster was an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which is part of the 82nd Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

"Pfc. Jacob Buckmaster was, by all accounts, a valuable member of the team," said Lt. Col. Jacob Larkowich, commander of 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry, in a statement. "Though he'd only been with the unit a short while, his dedication to his profession was evident in the enthusiasm with which he approached training for his Expert Infantryman Badge recently. His passing is truly a loss to the organization."

Buckmaster, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, joined the Army in September 2014. He completed one station unit training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in October 2015.

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge.

He is survived by his child and parents.
