More than 600 field-grade officers in the Regular Army have been selected for assignment to brigade- and battalion-level command and key billet positions in 2017, the service announced.

The assignments were made by several selection boards that met last fall and early this year; the positions become vacant in fiscal 2017.

Specific assignment information will be released by Human Resources Command later this year.

The standard command tour for most of these officers will be 24 months, or as needed for operational requirements.

The new generation of Army leaders includes promotable majors and promotable lieutenant colonels selected by the 2015 lieutenant colonel and colonel promotion boards.

Selections were made by three general categories of boards — Army Competitive Category, Army Medical Department and Army Acquisition Corps.

Key billet selection opportunities only applied to officers who have been designated into a functional area, which is a nonbranch career specialty.
