Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has signed a memo authorizing National Guard troops deployed in Washington to carry weapons if their mission requires it.
Without providing details, the Pentagon said in a short statement that “a majority” of U.S. troops and assets in Somalia will be withdrawn in early 2021.

No country has been involved in Somalia's future as much as the United States. The Trump administration is contemplating the withdrawal of the several hundred U.S. military troops from the nation, but some experts say it would come at the worst possible time.
The merger comes on the heels of some combat incidents at outposts on the Horn of Africa, including a May 9 attack on U.S. soldiers assigned to a coordination cell in Mogadishu, Somalia.
