Former Guard one-star pleads guilty in bribery scheme

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A former brigadier general with the Army National Guard has pleaded guilty to his role in a contracting bribery scheme and now faces up to 20 years in prison.

Seventy-six-year-old John Jones of Stafford, Virginia pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Alexandria. He's set to be sentenced Sept. 18.

After Jones retired from the Army National Guard, prosecutors say he founded a company called Military Personnel Services Corporation in Falls Church. While there, prosecutors say Jones participated in a bribery scheme in which he and others paid a National Guard official a percentage of more than $5.5 million in contracts steered to Jones' company.

The FBI's Washington Field Office investigated the case.
