Nearly 1,800 Regular Army soldiers will be promoted to ranks of sergeant through sergeant major in August, with more than half of those advancements going to promotable specialists and corporals.
Cutoff scores and senior NCO sequence numbers issued in late July authorize 36 promotions to sergeant, 163 to master sergeant, 159 to sergeant first class, 486 to staff sergeant and 941 to sergeant.
The sergeant major promotions will reduce the 2014 selection list to 96 names, while the sergeant first class advancements will complete the 2014 list.
The 2015 E-7 list, compiled by a board that met in June, is pending release.
August promotions to master sergeant will reduce the 2015 list to 1,083 names. When released in May, the 2015 list had 1,502 names.
Promotions to staff sergeant will be made from a pool of 13,532 promotable sergeants.
The sergeant advancements will go to 11,769 specialists and corporals who have been boarded and recommended for promotion by their chain of command.
There would be additional promotions to staff sergeant and sergeant if more soldiers in shortage specialties called STAR MOSs were on the Armywide E-6 and E-5 lists.
As of late July, there were eight STAR MOSs for staff sergeant, and 18 for sergeant.
