The Army has posted a "help wanted" sign for qualified junior enlisted soldiers interested in reclassifying to MOS 17C, cyber operations, a specialty with good promotion opportunity and career prospects for the future.
Soldiers can request reclassification without regard to the in/out calls for their current MOS.
The 17C hiring campaign supports the personnel buildup of Cyber Branch, an evolving team of some 1,500 officers, warrant officers, NCOs and junior enlisted soldiers trained and employed in offensive and defense missions that target enemy and hostile cyberspace activities, while responding to attacks against friendly networks and capabilities.
MOS 17C is a "by application" specialty, meaning that it has stringent eligibility requirements and screening procedures overseen by the specialty proponent, the Army Cyber School at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
Once approved for reclassification, soldiers will be scheduled to attend Phase I of the 17C course at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., and Phase 2 at the Army Cyber School, Fort Gordon.
Reclassification requests are being accepted from sergeants who are not in promotable status, and corporals, specialists, privates first class and privates who meet these requirements:
• Have normal color vision, meet the physical demand rating of medium, and have a physical profile of 222221 or better under the PULSHES system.
• Have minimum scores of 110 on the General Technical (GT) and 113 on the Skill Technical (ST) sections of the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery tests administered Jan. 2, 2002-March 31, 2014, or
• Minimum scores of 110 GT and 112 ST on tests administered on or after April 1, 2014.
• Soldiers must have a secret or higher security clearance at the time of application, and a top secret clearance with access to sensitive compartmented information before being awarded MOS 17C.
• Soldiers must pass a counterintelligence scope polygraph before being awarded the MOS, and periodically thereafter. Soldiers who have previously failed a CSP polygraph are not eligible for reclassification to 17C.
• A soldier's personnel, legal, security and medical records must be totally clear of adverse or disqualifying information.
