The family of a soldier fatally shot while stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, according to The News Tribune.
Sgt. Timothy Hovey, 27, was killed on Sept. 4 after leaving a party in Burien, Washington, just south of Seattle.
Hovey, of Sacramento, California, was taken by friends to a local hospital after they found him with wounds several blocks from the party around 4:30 a.m., according to a news release from the King County Sherriff's Office.
Hovey, with C Battery, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died.
Hovey enlisted in the Army in July 2010 as an air and missile defense crew member. He was scheduled to deploy to Iraq in October 2016.
Hovey wanted to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and great grandfather, both career military men, according to the Seattle Times. He earned two Army Achievement Medals and two Army Good Conduct Medals, among other awards and decorations.
In addition to the $10,000 offered by Hovey's family, Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 for information that could help solve the case.
The Army has been assisting in the investigation as needed. Anyone with information is urged to call the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
