This year we mark the 40th anniversary of the Space Force.
No, not the space-based military force that folks in Washington, D.C., have proposed, turned down and proposed again, most recently by President Trump this week in San Diego.
Nope, this is probably one of the world’s worst (or best, depending on your viewpoint) television shows since ... well, perhaps in history.
“Space Force” premiered in 1978, right on the heels of the first (fourth?) Star Wars movie. It was the era of the original “Battlestar Galactica,” “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” and “Space 1999.” All television shows lacked the production value of “Star Wars,” none so much as “Space Force.”
The premise: A fairly inept military force ... in space.
That’s it.
While the show first aired in 1978, neither IMDB nor TCM.com note how long the show lasted. It couldn’t have been that long. Judge for yourself:
