Two prisoners who attempted to escape the Fort Leavenworth Army Corrections Brigade were stopped by correctional officers on April 29.
Army Sgt. Brian Lieberman intervened during an active shooter environment, shielding an injured civilian from gunfire.
The positions will remain airborne billets, but soldiers will no longer be required to maintain jump status or receive jump pay.
Maj. Gen. Curtis Taylor, commanding general of the 1st Armored Division, said it would be a “long and difficult recovery operation.”
