A soldier assigned to the 1st Infantry Division died Sunday as a result of a motorcycle accident on Fort Riley, Kansas, officials said.

Pfc. Timothy Meuse, an infantryman with C Company, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 63rd Armor Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, lost control of his motorcycle while riding on post late Saturday evening, officials said.

The 20-year-old was taken to Irwin Army Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early the next morning.

The incident is under investigation.

“Pfc. Meuse was beloved by his fellow soldiers,” said Lt. Col. Tyler Andersen, his battalion commander. “He was a great young soldier, and everyone in the company is stunned by his loss.”

Meuse, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, joined the Army in February 2017 and arrived at Fort Riley four months later. He deployed to Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve in September 2017.

His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
