FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — A Fort Jackson soldier is getting to know his newborn son after getting his glimpse while watching his birth from the basic training post’s gun range.
WIS reports (http://bit.ly/1uIUvBp) the day Colton Zachary Rush was born, his father’s unit was training on small arms. Pvt. Zachary Rush had finished shooting, so a chaplain asked Rush’s superiors for permission to tune in by smartphone to the event going on in a Montgomery, Alabama, hospital.
The baby’s mother could see and hear Rush urging her to push. Peyton Howell says hearing the gunfire in the background was the last thing she worried about.
About a dozen members of Rush’s family made the trip from Alabama for his graduation from Army basic training.
