Gov. Paul LePage nominates new Maine National Guard leader

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage says he has nominated Col. Douglas Farnham to serve as adjutant general, the leader of the Maine National Guard.

Farnham has been the wing commander of the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor for three years. He is a graduate of Brewer High School and the United States Air Force Academy. LePage says Farnham has 31 years of military service.

Brig. Gen. Gerard Bolduc of the Maine National Guard last week withdrew his name from consideration to serve as adjutant general on a permanent basis. He has served as acting adjutant general since LePage fired Brig. Gen. James Campbell in March.

The adjutant general also serves as the state’s commissioner of defense, veterans and emergency management.
