A soldier from Fort Riley, Kansas, who had been missing for several days was found dead July 1, officials said Thursday.

Spc. Oscar Delgado, 26, was found on post. He was a fire control repairer assigned to B Company, 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Spc. Delgado," said Lt. Col. Michael Post, commander of the 101st Brigade Support Battalion, in a statement. "We will continue to provide support to Oscar's family as we grieve the loss of one of our own and come to terms with this tragedy."

Delgado was last in contact with his unit the evening of June 24, a Friday. His unit officially reported him missing June 26.

Officials from Fort Riley on June 30 asked for the public's help in finding Delgado and his black 2012 Ford Mustang.

Delgado was found dead in his car in a training area on Fort Riley, said Chris Grey, a spokesman for Army Criminal Investigation Command. The vehicle was on an unimproved road, which provided access into a training area.

"At this point in the investigation, we don't suspect foul play, but have not completely ruled it out while we conduct a complete and thorough death investigation," Grey said.

Delgado, who was from San Francisco, joined the Army in March 2014. He had been stationed at Fort Riley since October of that year.

Delgado's awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. He had not been deployed.
