Missing US Army Alaska soldier found dead

A soldier from U.S. Army Alaska who had been missing since Sept. 17 has been found dead, officials said.

Alaska State Troopers announced Saturday that the body of Pvt. Mason Jeremiah Heimer was found in his truck at the Harding Lake campground near Fairbanks, officials from U.S. Army Alaska announced Monday evening.

Heimer, 22, had been missing since he failed to report to morning formation Sept. 17.

State and Army officials continue to investigate Heimer’s death, but they do not suspect foul play, according to U.S. Army Alaska.

Heimer, a combat engineer with the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, joined the Army from Spring Branch, Texas, in September 2017. He had been assigned to Alaska since March 2018.
