Coronavirus cases are trending downward in the military. Troops and their families will have to complete a risk assessment and, possibly, a quarantine period. After a surging June and July, there are early signs that new cases are leveling off. The military has twice the number of cases today that it had six weeks ago. The governor of the southern Japanese island of Okinawa urged the government on Wednesday to pressure the U.S. military to do more to stop an escalating coronavirus outbreak at American bases there that has infected more than 130 Marines. Cases in the military surged 33% in the past 10 days, twice the rate of new cases nationwide. Only California, Florida and Michigan are still no-go zones for non-essentially Defense Department travel. More than 1,100 new cases were diagnosed in troops this week.
