The Army is investigating the death of a paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division, officials announced Monday.

Spc. Victor Aponte-Rosado, 31, died Feb. 6 on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, officials said.

Aponte-Rosado, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, was a cannon artillery crewmember assigned to B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, which is part of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Special agents from Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating the circumstances of his death.

Aponte-Rosado joined the Army in March 2016. After initial entry training, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division just this month.

"Spc. Victor Aponte-Rosado was a paratrooper who proudly served our Army and our nation," said Lt. Col. Kevin Taylor, commander of 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, in a statement. "Although he was new to this organization, he will forever remain a part of the Gun Devils. We now focus our attention on supporting his family during this difficult time."
