Military travel comes with its own set of challenges, but where you stay should never be one of them. At IHG® Army Hotels, we are committed to making life easier for service members and their families. While travel may be part of military life, comfort should never be optional.
That commitment is reflected in our work through the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) program. PAL is a long-term partnership with the U.S. Army focused on modernizing lodging facilities located on Army posts nationwide. Since its inception, we’ve invested more than $1.8 billion into PAL and have upgraded more than 12,000 hotel rooms across 40 Army installations. We’ve replaced outdated properties, renovated existing structures, and built new, brand-standard hotels that offer the same accommodations found at off-post hotels. The impact of privatization is visible in every corner of our hotel portfolio, with next-level comfort, improved safety, and refreshed amenities.
For example, our Candlewood Suites® offer suite-style rooms and the added convenience of brand hallmarks such as the Lending Locker, which guests can access for kitchen appliances and games, and the Candlewood Cupboard, which provides grab-and-go meals, snacks, and everyday essentials. And, all of our hotels offer complimentary hot daily breakfast, high-speed internet, pet-friendly accommodations, guest laundry facilities and much more.
Privatization not only benefits guests and their communities, but the Army itself. It enables IHG Army Hotels to support the Army’s long-term infrastructure goals and help free up resources that are needed elsewhere. We reinvest $43 of every $100 into the program, with over $5 billion allocated for improvements over the next 50 years. Our commitment to PAL also reflects our values of sustainability and cost savings. In the past three years alone, our conservation efforts have saved the Army over $1.8 million.
For many guests, hotel improvements mean more than upgraded rooms—they represent stability. Whether navigating PCS, reporting for training, or reuniting with loved ones, having access to consistent, quality lodging brings peace of mind when it’s needed most. Our commitment to providing a quality stay is reflected in our guest satisfaction scores. We’re proud to have earned five out of five stars in the Garrison Commander Evaluation Metric for the past five years.
Since 2009, we’ve seen how meaningful this improved lodging experience can be. We’re honored to provide more than just a place to stay. We’re creating spaces that serve, support, and reflect the strength of the military community.
As we look to the future, our mission remains clear: to continue raising the standard of IHG Army hotels through long-term reinvestment, innovation, and hospitality. Because for us, service goes beyond the front desk. It’s about honoring those who serve by offering comfort, consistency, and quality the military community deserves.
