Just about a week after the White House announced details of a new nuclear monitoring deal with Iran, Congress will get its chance to dig into the plan.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will host the secretaries of state, energy and treasury on Thursday for an in-depth look at the deal, which many lawmakers already have labeled a potentially harmful gambit for American security.

On Tuesday, the Senate Armed Services Committee holds its fourth military leadership confirmation hearing in the last three weeks, this time reviewing the credentials of Gen. Mark Milley to become the next Army chief of staff.

Lawmakers also hope this week will mark the end of conference work on the 2016 defense authorization bill, which has been taking place behind closed doors for weeks. Congressional leaders are still seeking to bring the bill up for a full floor vote in both chambers before the August recess starts.
