A 34-year-old soldier died on his way home from training duties Sunday at Fort Hood when his motorcycle struck livestock, the Texas installation announced Tuesday.

Glass, of New Orleans, enlisted in 2002 and had served with Fort Hood-based 2nd Battalion, 291st Infantry Regiment, since Oct. 28, 2015. He deployed twice to Iraq (August 2003-September 2004, November 2006-November 2007) and once to Afghanistan (March 2010-January 2011).

He earned the Purple Heart Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, the Combat Action Badge and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Wheeled Vehicle Bar, among other honors and decorations, according to the release.
