El Paso,  police have arrested a Fort Bliss soldier in connection with the slaying of a transgender woman in August.

Spc. Anthony Michael Bowden, 21, was arrested Tuesday and faces a murder charge in the death of Erykah Tijerina, 36. Police found Tijerina dead Aug. 8 in an El Paso public housing complex with "obvious signs of foul play," according to a police news release.

Forensic evidence led police to Bowden, the El Paso Times reported Wednesday.

The soldier is a Patriot Launching Station crewman assigned to 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, KVIA-TV reported. He'd been with his unit since July and been at Fort Bliss since January 2014, according to the TV station.

After an interview at police headquarters, Bowden was arrested and jailed on $750,000 bond, the news release states.
