A private assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, has died from an apparent gunshot wound, officials said Wednesday.

Pvt. Nathan Joshua Berg, 20, died Saturday in Killeen, Texas.

A native of Bellevue, Nebraska, Berg had been in the Army just four months, entering active-duty military service in May as a combat engineer. He was assigned to Reception Detachment, U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Hood, just this month.

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The Killeen Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding Berg's death.
