Three days after being suspended, the commander of the 1st Infantry Division has been relieved of command, the Army announced Monday.

An Army official would only say Maj. Gen. Wayne Grigsby was relieved "due to loss of confidence."

"He continues to be the subject of an investigation, and we cannot comment further at this time," the official said in a statement. "A replacement will be named in the coming days."

Army officials again declined to provide any additional information, including the nature of the investigation.

Grigsby took command of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas, in August 2015, according to his official bio

He has served as the special assistant to the Army's deputy chief of staff for operations (G-3/5/7) in Washington, D.C., and as the commanding general of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.

He also spent time as the deputy commanding general of operations for the 1st Armored Division, the director of the Mission Command Center of Excellence, and the director of the School of Advanced Military Studies Program.

Grigsby commanded 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, leading his soldiers on a deployment to Iraq during the 2007 surge. He also served as commander of 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment.
