FORT DRUM, N.Y. — The Pentagon has named Maj. Gen. Walter E. Piatt as the next commander of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum.
Piatt is a former deputy commander of the division who currently serves as director of operations of the Army Rapid Capabilities Office in Washington. He's scheduled to replace the current commander, Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Bannister, on April 27.
Bannister is expected to transition to a senior position within the Pentagon.
Bannister's 27 months of command includes an 11-month deployment to Afghanistan with the division headquarters, where he served as the Deputy Commanding General of Support, United States Forces Afghanistan.
