A soldier from North Carolina has died after a swimming accident in Germany.
Spc. Melvin Douglas Spruill Jr. was swimming in a lake near Darmstadt, Germany, on Aug. 6 when he was rescued by fellow service members, Stars and Stripes reported.
The 20-year-old died after he was taken to a hospital.

Spruill joined the Army in 2016 and was a petroleum supply specialist with 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment.
“It was an honor and a privilege to have served alongside such an enthusiastic and dedicated patriot,” Lt. Col. Frank Fair, the battalion commander, said. “His death is an immeasurable loss. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.”
The incident is under investigation.
